A student
- The lecturer or tutor explains the process to the whole class and if necessary, asks for a student volunteer to distribute and collect the questionnaires. A suitable explanation could be
“What we are about to do in this class is an evaluation of the teaching in this unit. A questionnaire will be distributed shortly and this should take you no longer than 10 minutes to complete. The survey is to collect valuable information on my teaching of this unit. Please note this evaluation only deals with me as the lecturer (or tutor). The information you provide is confidential and will be processed by an independent body, the Centre for Higher Education Quality (CHEQ). The feedback you give will be used to improve the unit. Please feel free to make any general comments on the questionnaire. To ensure confidentiality I will ask for a volunteer to distribute the questionnaire and collect them at the end. Both used and unused questionnaires must be collected and placed in the envelope provided. The student volunteer will then seal the envelope and sign across the sealed envelope flap. The envelope is then delivered by the student volunteer to the departmental/faculty administration office or to a designated drop off box.”
- The lecturer/tutor leaves the class after handing the questionnaires and the envelope to the student volunteer.
- The student volunteer supervises distribution of the questionnaires.
- Upon completion, the student volunteer supervises collection of all questionnaires (whether completed or not) and places them all in the envelope provided.
- The student volunteer seals the envelope in front of the class and signs across the sealed flap.
- The student volunteer takes the sealed envelope to a designated place (e.g. the administrative office in the department/faculty or a drop-off box especially for classes run in the evening).
- When the faculty administrator receives the envelope, he or she records receiving the evaluation and then sends the envelope to CHEQ. Information to be recorded includes unit evaluated, date received and date dispatched to CHEQ. This provides a safeguard if problems are encountered during the dispatch to CHEQ via the internal or external mail system.
